MORGANTOWN, W.Va.– The West Virginia University baseball team dropped an 11-4 decision to Arizona on Sunday afternoon at Kendrick Family Ballpark. The Mountaineers (19-3, 2-2 Big 12) lost their first series of the season.
Sam White hit his third home run of the year and drove in two runs. Jace Rinehart had two hits and two RBI for WVU.
The Wildcats (18-5, 5-1) got on the board first with one run in the second and two in the third.
In the bottom of the third, White hit a two-run bomb to right field to cut the deficit to 3-2.
Then in the fourth, Rinehart doubled home a pair of runs, giving the Mountaineers a 4-3 advantage.
In the eighth. the wheels fell off for WVU and Arizona scored six runs to take the lead back. In the ninth, the Wildcats tacked on two more runs.
The Mountaineers will return to Kendrick Family Ballpark on Tuesday when they take on Marshall. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.
