Powell, a 6 feet 6 inch sharpshooter came to WVU basketball out of Dayton, Ohio. He was one of two freshmen to sign with first year head coach Darian DeVries.
Due to Tucker DeVries missing all but eight games on the season because of a shoulder injury, Powell was asked to play a lot of minutes for the Mountaineers. He was second on the team in minutes played (30.1 per game) behind Javon Small. Though his production was inconsistent at times, it was mostly good for the former three-star recruit out of Centerville High School. Powell was relied on to be a three-point shooter for the Mountaineers. He averaged 8.3 points per game, with nearly 73% of his shots coming from behind the arc. He was 64 of 182 from three, which was 35.2%. His overall field goal percentage was 37.8%. He also had 22 steals and 22 assists on the season.
Powell will be a loss for the Mountaineers, but we can expect them to hit the transfer portal hard to find his replacement. Tucker DeVries is also expected to be granted a medical redshirt and return for the 2025-26 season. Also eligible to return for WVU are Amani Hansberry, Sencire Harris, and KJ Tenner.
